Basically any person that is willing to pledge money or property as collateral for your release from jail is cosigning that you will show up for every court proceeding that the court assigns. If you should miss or skip a hearing, then the court can collect on the bail amount. Legally the agent will lose their bond and has a right to peruse you in civil court in order to recover their money.

Once you have found a bond, the process is quite quick depending upon the bail bond rules. The paperwork is a matter of minutes and release from jail is usually about an hour after that. The exception being that sometimes county jail takes a couple of hours and if the jail is overloaded with other proceedings then it can take several more hours.
